My teaching philosophy

In my teaching, I focus on:

• Visualization of the problem - Yes, pencil and paper (or stylus and tablet).
• Playing with the question - With sample cases given and made up. Gain some insights.
• Connecting to previous problems - Themes, patterns, and ideas we explored. Doesn't this remind you of..?
• Clean and simple code - Practice!
• Reflection - Going over the problem again, improving it, and cleaning a solution. Priceless,and helps fix in memory.

As for USACO training: USACO Bronze requires no special algorithms. You need to be able to program comfortably in your selected langauge, and be able to solve problems. USACO Silver and Gold require specific knowledge (graph algorithms, dynamic programming, etc), and for Platinum also familiarity with wider range of problems helps.
